LifePoints Frequently Asked Questions


Once you have created an online account, you’ll also be able to access our LifePoints Rewards Program.  LifePoints is our way to say thank you for all your life-saving blood donations. To see how many points you have and which prizes are available, log into your Donor Portal account and click on the Online Store tab.


Q. What is the LifePoints Reward Program?
A. The LifePoints Rewards Program is Community Blood Center’s program to recognize donation frequency and motivate donors to respond to special-needs requests. This program is now an online “store” where donors redeem points for recognition gifts.

The program is part of CBCO’s online donor portal, where donors easily schedule appointments, review donation history, update contact information and are recognized for lifesaving donations.

Q. How does the LifePoints Rewards Program work?
A. Donors who create an online account using their unique Donor ID in the CBCO Donor Portal can earn points for donations. The points vary according to the type of blood donation procedure made.

Donors may “spend” their points in the LifePoints Store for a variety of recognition gifts – or they can donate their points to support the blood center mission or other charitable cause.

Q. Is a donor automatically enrolled in the LifePoints Rewards Program?
A. No. A donor must first create an online account in the Donor Portal, using his or her unique Donor ID, to join the LifePoints program. Exceptions are made for donors who request that we create an account on their behalf and for U-donors.

Q. Can donors without computer access join the LifePoints Rewards Program?
A. Yes. Donors can enroll by calling the Donor Contact Center (417-227-5006). Contact Center staff will assist the donor in creating an account.

Q. How can a donor view what is in the online store?
A. Visit the online store to preview the items available.  Only donors who have created a Donor Portal account using his or her unique Donor ID will be able to begin earning points and redeem them online.

Q. How can a donor view his or her point total?
A. Donors with Donor Portal accounts should log into their account and click on the LifePoints tab to see their point total as well as the items in the store and the point value assigned to each.

Q. How soon after a donation will points be added to the donor account?
A. Donors should allow five business days for their account to reflect the points earned from a donation.

Q. I donated and then found out about the LifePoints program; can my donation earn points if I create a Donor Portal account right away?
A. Yes, CBCO provides a seven-day grace period for donors to create a Donor Portal Account after they have given. Donations made within seven days prior to creating a Donor Portal account will earn points in the LifePoints program.

Q. Is there a limit to how many points a donor can earn?
A. Yes, there is a limit. No additional points will be added if a donor reaches 12,000 points.

Q. I’m a platelet donor. Do I get extra points for giving a “double” or “triple”?
A.  We thank and appreciate our platelet donors (as we do all our donors) for the time and effort they put into their donations.  While platelet donors do not earn more points for a double or triple, they can donate up to 24 times in one year, and have the opportunity to accrue the most possible points the fastest. The double or triple platelet you donate helps ensure that even more lives are saved by ensuring our hospitals have the vital products they need.

Q. I’m type O negative. How does the program work for me?
A.  Your blood type is not common – less than 8% of the population has it, yet more than 13% of all blood transfused in our community requires it. The result is chronic, and often severe shortages of the universal blood type. As a U-Donor, you have a very special calling indeed. Visit our U-Donor LifePoints page for more information.

Q. How do donors redeem points?
A. All items in the online store are assigned a point value. Donors log into their account and order items they want with the points they have earned. The item will be mailed to the donor’s home address (or a preferred address).

Q. How do donors redeem points if they do not have computer access?
A. Donors can call the Donor Contact Center (417) 227-5006 to learn what is in the store and staff will assist with placing the order. (Donors without a home computer are encouraged to utilize computers available at public libraries if this better suits their needs).

Q. Can points expire?
A. Points expire if there is no donation activity for more than 15 months.

Q. Will donors receive points for donations made before enrolling in the program?
A. No. Points are earned only for donations made after signing up online.

Q. Will there be a time when donors donate blood, but don’t receive points for the Donor Club?
A. Yes. During certain blood drives or donor center events, where promotional or incentive items are being given directly to the donor, CBCO may choose not to allocate donor points. That is due to the donors receiving an item on-site and CBCO will indicate when this will take place in advance of the blood drives or promotional events.

Q. Will there be a time when donors receive extra points for their donations?
A. Yes. CBCO has the ability to assign extra points as necessary. For example, when the blood inventory levels are especially low or inclement weather has caused the cancelations of blood drives. CBCO will indicate when this will take place in advance of the promotion.

Q. There is a category called LifePoints Lift. What does it mean??
A. LifePoints Lift is a program where donors can support worthy causes by donating their Donor Club points. If you are so inclined, you can help local patients with blood donations while simultaneously benefiting other worthwhile endeavors.  Find out more at the LifePoints Lift information page.
