AB Plasma Critically Low

Header---Emergency
June 30, 2016 — Did you know that less than 4% of the population is type AB? It’s true – Type AB blood is the most rare of all four ABO types. But it’s not type AB blood that makes these donors so unique – it’s their plasma. Type AB plasma is considered the UNIVERSAL plasma type for patients. Plasma is used for clotting disorders, burn and shock victims, among others.

AB Plasma Program Main

We’re are urging type AB donors to give now because the supply of Universal plasma has dropped to critically low levels. In fact, our normal inventory of AB plasma is around 100 units for area hospitals. Our reserves have dropped to CRITICALLY LOW LEVELS – we desperately need your help in rebuilding the supply!

Your plasma donation is especially important to maintaining sufficient supplies for our community, and with regular and frequent plasma donations you’ll be helping hundreds of patients in our area.

Almost anyone who is a blood donor can donate plasma. You are eligible if you are at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health. You can donate plasma every 28 days.

Because plasma donations require special instruments, we encourage donors to come to Springfield or Springdale donation centers. Please take a moment to find a location near you. When you arrive at our center, please let the staff know that you are Type AB and would like to donate plasma to help rebuild the supply.

Thank you for supporting patients in the Ozarks – we hope to see you soon!

A photo ID is required to be presented prior to donation.
